Re: Franky Miles and Nathaniel Harrison
In Response To: Re: Franky Miles and Nathaniel Harrison ()
Linda, I do not think that your Harrisons are related to my family. My Harrison surnamed relatives are descendents of Nathaniel Harrison (white) and Frankie Miles (former slave) as is indicated in the original posting. Their children, Edwin, Ann Marie and Lurane were born about the same time as the ancestors that you listed. Most of the information I have is from Edwin's granddaughter, so I think it's fairly accurate. Edwin is the only "Harrison" in that generation. The other Harrisons would be his children and grandchildren, since the children of the two girls would bear their father's name. None of the records that I have give me any names of slaves that Nathaniel may have had. I know from various census records that he had free blacks and slaves living on his farm. So it's possible that a former slave took his surname at some point. Nathaniel's father owned property in Amelia. Nathaniel was probably born there and stayed in Amelia with his older brother, Edmund, after his father's death. Nathaniel died in Amelia in 1852. Most of his children show up in the census records for 1850, 1860, and 1870. I'm still working on some of the rest. They didn't all stay in Amelia forever (I'm still tracking some of them), but I still have Harrison descendents relatives living in Amelia. I am not aware of any relatives in the counties that you mentioned.
Good luck with your continued search. Do you know where your Harrison's were born. I will keep the information in case I run across them in my searches. Judith
