Cool. Nice to hear from a distant relation. I come from the Gradneys and the LaChapelles as well. I'll check out the Chavis in the North Carolina section. I remember going through a book of free people of color there. Its a BUNCH of Chavis people. I just dont know anything more about the John Shivers that showed up on the 1796 census of Opelousas.
