I am so happy. I confirmed that my ancestor Jean Louis Sam(c1781/1782 probarly in present day Saint Martinville,Louisiana)was freed along with Pierre in 1811 at Saint Martinville by a free black woman, Magdelaine MASSE(another ancestor of mine who was owned by a free person of color complicated by the fact I descend from black slaveowners on my grandmothers side.whew), the widow of Etienne SAM, a free man color. Jean Louis and Pierre both took the surname SEMME which later became SAM. On FEB 18 1824, the will of Magdaliane MASSE showed that she bequethed livestock and etc.. to Louis Sam, free negro and Pierre Sam, also free negro. That confirms a lot of the other research I done and the theories I had.And this Pierre SAM links me to two other free SAMs who I had trouble figuring out the connection. Now the puzzle has been solved to a certain degree
