I found this listing in the catholic records of louisiana recording the birth of:

William Chevers(son of David Chevers and Elisabeth Purlee of North Carolina)born December 5 1812. The record also lists his grandparents as being Peter Chevers and Elisabeth of Pennsylvania.
I am trying to find out when this branch of the Chavis family migrated to St. Landry Parish and maybe who these people are. I found an earlier reference in 1792 of a John Shivers, free mulatto, in the census of free mulattoes and negroes of Opelousas in the Cuban Papers. He is also present in the 1810 census of Attakapas Parish(St. Martin) Louisiana.
