Other fpoc in Attakapas/Pointe Coupee/St. Landry
Oh, there were members of this fpoc of color community with origins in those three parishes:
Pierre Stix or Stix(this name is unusual,my theory is that Stix is a corruption of an african name. Stix was the former slave of Gabriel Fusilier de La Claire, the commandent of the Opelousas/Attakapas starting in 1760. He was a slave gunman in the 1779 Attakapas militia along with some Masses and Fusiliers of color.(Stix was free by 1783 because he was a witness at the wedding of Etienne SEME and Magdalaine MASSE in Attakapas Parish. He is defined as a free negro. I also find him on the 1785 census of that parish.Occuring to a slave inventory of Gabriel Fusilier done in 1777, Stix was born around 1737. His daughter, Louisin(b.1775) was also owned by Gabriel as well as Esope/Pierre Esope Seme/(b.1773), the natural son of Etienne Seme Fusilier(Etienne purchased his freedom from Auguste Solieau in 1797. Stix purchased the freedom of his daugther, Louisin in 1804 from Jacques Roman. Stix's wife ,Marie Jeanne, was owned by Martin Duralde. Stix bought her in 1789. Sadly, she died five months later.
Baptiste MASSE(Prob. Baptiste Masse, son of Andre Leveille and Marie Flore, fpoc)
