The Zachariah Roberson found in Hempstead County, Arkansas may, or may not, be your connection. He filed his Freedom Papers or "Oaths of Character" at the courthouse in 1839. His papers indicate as follows: "We the undersigners Subscribers do hereby certify that we have been acquainted with Zachariah Roberson his wife and Sally Jacobs his mother who we do hereby certify are free people of color, and have for many years resided in this County of Anson in the State of North Carolina and neighborhoods of the Pee Dee River . . . ". This document was signed & sworn to by 19 persons in November of 1831 in Anson County, NC.
