Looking for information on Samuel Taylor, a "free man of colour" who was emancipated in 1806 by Arthur Taylor, on record in Laurens Co., SC. Samuel bought land on at least two occasions in Greenville, SC, before 1820, and in 1818 deeded 2 acres to the "Baptist Society" for the "good will shown to Society."
He also bought the freedom of at least three slaves in Greenville County before 1820; Moses, abt.17, Cupid, abt. 20, and Amy, a "woman" of about eight or nine. No clue to the relationships.
Abt. 1820 he sold at least part of the land, and I cannot trace him further at this point. Any information or suggestions of where to look would be welcomed.
Thanks!
