William Charles, free man of color

hi, I am looking for some information on William Charles, my ggg grandfather, who I believe was free man of color in Louisiana. There is a catholic record stating his baptism in 1849 in Charenton, Louisiana. His parents were Belchell Charles and Catherine Smith. He is also known to have owned land in the St. Landry Parish area. I believe Charenton is in Lafayette Parish or St. Martin. I'm not sure. Any advice or info would be extremely helpful. The son of William Charles is Adeole Charles. He married Regina Pitre in 1896. They are my gg grandparents. Adeoles other siblings were Eva Tezino and Adam Charles.
