Dennis Gainey, Sampson or Johnston County, NC
I am looking for Dennis Gainey from Northern Sampson or Southern Johnston County, NC. Don't have a date of birth. He was mentioned as possibly being the father of Mary E. b. 1835, Winnie and Faithy Barefoot b. 1846-1847 in NC. Winnie was my g grandmother b. abt. 1845 and d. 1931. Her mother was Clarky Barefoot b. abt 1812 (gg Grandmother) and died after 1900. Dennis was probably about her age. After Clarky had the Mulatto girls, I was told some of the people in NC were going to lynch him, so he left and went north to Philadelphia, PA. He came back and they were going to lynch him again and he left that last time and never returned to the area. Has anyone come across a Dennis Gainey in Philly, PA? But he was born in NC. I sorry, I don't know his birth year.
It seems Clarky's mother (UNK) gave Dennis Gainey to Clarky as a gift to used as her Butler or to farm her land. The 3 girls were used as servants staying with other White households in the area. Clarky resided on her property. Clarky was the daughter of Noah Barefoot, Meadows Township, Johnston County, NC. I do have my g grandmother, Winnie's death information, it states father born in NC, his name was UNK.
