Hello Anita,

Congratulations, you are to be commended for following up on this Celebration. Too often we, African Americans, are included in these local and even national events and then suddenly we're dropped from the "program".

The sad part of this, is that it seems to be part of a larger design. I've seen the very same thing happen in my community. We're trotted out during Black History Month, but not included in those year-long events where our ancestors played a role, often a very significant role.

I call it a "second-place syndrome"......the runner-up is soon to be forgotten. Who remembers the second place finisher in most major events. Only the winners are remembered and written about. Those thought of as "second class citizens" are also too often forgotten.

Perhaps my venting should be on the Discuss Forum, but responding to your action on this Forum seemed appropiate.
