I haven't found them on the 1860 census yet. Can you tell me where I would find emancipation records? I'm still looking into the white Chisms in Hardeman Co. TN same area my family is from. Some info was passed on to me listing a will by an Elizabeth Gibbson Chism dated 1844 and she died in 1851, who willed 6 slaves to her son John Chism there was and Eldridge listed among the slaves can't say if this is my great-great grandfather. Were free person of color listed on the 1860 census? I have an 1872 deed belonging the Eldridge. Can you tell me what personal estate is? On an 1870 cnesus Eldridge was listed as having $400 personal estate. Thank you. Renae
