Suggest you take a look at early white Lambert families in that part of VA - one was associated with Carter land grants. This could be a bit tedious - but since the surname Lambert came from somewhere - more than likely it was associated with whomever freed them.

A Hugh LAMBERT is listed on the 1738 rent rolls for PWC.
