I wish I had the time to study these types of cases more closely. There is something in the back of my head that keeps nagging at me about these cases. I think they will reveal that numerous manumissions were never fulfilled. Although you've provided an example of why a few were unsuccessful, due to death, I am sure there are numerous reasons why many people never enjoyed the freedoms they were promised.
