I believe that my ancestor was free and living in the Loudoun County Poor House in 1860. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Poor House and if there was just one or not. I found a website about the "Poor House Farm" that is now a B&B, but on it's site it says "In pre-Civil War times, there were generally 10 inmates, as the residents were called. All were white. " So, how can my black relative have lived there with her 2 kids? I definitely saw her there on the census. Does this make since to anyone? Does anyone have any books or records to help me out? Does anyone know about the Poor House?
