I trace myself back to a Sylvia Givens who was a slave of William Allen II of Surry County Va and freed, along with her six children (Morris, James, Katy, Emanuel, Indiana and Mary Eliza) in Allen's will in 1832. I know that the family remained in Surry County until the early 1840s since I can find references to them in the Register of Free Negroes. However, shortly thereafter, they disappear. Katy pops up in Massachusetts about 1850 married to a Moore from Norfolk County Va. The movement or whereabouts of the rest of the family (as well as the story of Katy from 1842-1850) is unknown. Can anyone provide any insight. Any help would be appreciated.
