The Hamlins probably came first from Sussex County, Va., and later adjoining Southampton County. There were free Whitfields in Southampton County. A Day family left Southampton and arrived in Logan County mid-1800s. The Whetsell/ Witsells were in-laws to the Newsoms, another Southampton Co, Va./ Northampton County, NC name.
