Parrot/Perrett Mississippi

I am seeking help, researching a free person of color.

Enoch E. Perrett(surname: lot of different spellings)born about 1800. On the 1850 census, place of birth is listed as NC, on the 1860, SC is shown as place of birth.
First record of him is the 1824 tax roll of Simpson County, MS, a burned county (no records before 1873). He died in 1863, in Simpson County. Simpson was a new county and very rural durning Enoch's lifetime. I have census records, have searched all of the county tax rolls of MS for his time period. I have not found any other Perrett's, that can be linked to him.

Enoch Perrett married Nancy Webster, according to death certificate of daughter. Nancy was born in NC. There appears to be some connection to the Joseph Bogan/Boggan of Anson County NC and Simpson County, MS but no proof.

Enoch was married to a white woman(she is always shown as white) at a time when it was against the law for a FPOC to sleep with one. He settled land that was later Patented by a white man. Enoch bought his land from the white man, when the seller would not give him a deed, Enoch sued him. The case went to the MS Chancery Court and Enoch won. Durning this time Enoch is reported to have shot a white man. It was unlawful for a FPOC to possess a gun durning that time. Yet I fine no change in his life, he could have been sold into slavery for a lot less.
He remained in the state when FPOC were being told to leave. In 1836 he moved to a nearby county and purchased a land patent. Apparently he had no diffculty moving about, when others did. He paid taxes on a clock when no one else in the county appeared to have one. All his children were listed as mullatos at one time or the other, yet all married white spouses.

Does anyone have any suggestion where to look next? I have searched some NC and SC records but find no Perretts that are FPOC.
This is by far the most diffcult line I have ever researched. Any suggestions or comments are welcomed.

Thanks to all of you! This is a very helpful and interesting forum.
