William Featherston(e)born 12/25/1865 and died 12/15/1941 was the son of James Featherstone and William was called a mulatto on the 1880 Census with his sister Louisa. William was supposed to be named after his grandfather "one of the Original Settlers" of that county. I have been trying to find who his mother was. William's grandmother (Lucy) Lucinda Featherstone who was supposed to be black is buried in a white cemetary along with other nameless family members who's headstones are no longer recognizable. Would this have been done in the 1880's? Are the census in the late 19th centuries wrong when they say mulatto is that the same as Native American?
