Re: Bethancourt family - More Info?
In Response To: Bethancourt family ()

Could you give us more information? When would your grandfather have lived in St. John? Did you find him in any census records?

Do you know when your grandfather died?
There was a Felicienne listed in the death index online. He died in St. John parish at 63 years of age. If you can, order his Death record from the LA State Archives. Better yet, visit Baton Rouge yourself and view and print it for 1/10 the cost. It MAY list parents names, which will get you back another generation.

While there, you can also search for other relatives' birth and death certificates. For example, you can check for the death certificate of Felicien's children. One or more of them may also list their mother's maiden name and place of birth.

St. John is under the NO Archdiocese. Unfortunately, their records are not yet published past the 1820's (they are still a work in progress). However, you can write to the Archdiocese for more information.

[Florestan, Florestal, Ovide and Clovis are not uncommon for the area.]
