Hi. I just wanted to know where could a find a collection of bastardy bonds for Pitt County, NC. This is an example of a bastardy bond:
WARRANT May 4, 1866, Pitt County, North Carolina:
"State of North Carolina, Pitt County
To the sheriff of the said county or any other lawful officer
Whereas information has this day been made to me one of the justices of the peace for the said county, that Susan Davenport of the said county single woman, has a child borned which child is a bastard and may become chargeable to the county. These are to command you to apprehend and bring before me or some other justice of the peace for the said county the aforesaid Susan Davenport to answer the charge alleged against her as aforesaid, for which this shall be your sufficient warrant.
Given under my hand and seal in the said county on the 4 day of May in the year of our Lord 1866.
Wm. G. Little, J.P."
EXAMINATION May 4, 1866, Pitt County, North Carolina:
"State of North Carolina, Pitt County
I, Wm. G. Little one of the Justices of the said county this day proceeded to take the examination of Susan Davenport, whereupon she declared on oath that she has a child which child is a bastard and may become chargeable to the county. She further declares on oath that Jack a colored man from V.a. is the father of said child. The ballance of his name unknown.
