Re: Goins from SC
In Response To: Goins from SC ()

Hi Sabrina:

1870 census, South Carolina, Township 10, Fairfield, S.C.
GOINS, Evans, age 40, black, farmer

Rachel, age 35, keeps house

Daisey, age 15, farm hand

William, age 14, farm hand

Amanda, age 7

Hester, age 5

There was a GOINS, Reeps(Rapes) who was born in 1749, who enlisted in the 2nd South Carolina Regiment, July 1,1779, Granville County, North Carolina. I assume he was an FPOC at his time of enlistment. He may qualify as a Revolutionary War Soldier. You may know that there were several Going, Gowin and Gowens, as soldiers in the Revolutionary War.

Edward Going, Bute County, N. Carolina
Jenkins Gowen, Granville County, N. Carolina (same county as Reeps)
Frederick Goen, Bruswick County, Virginia
Raverly Going/Gowing, Charles City, Virginia
Sherard/ Sherwood Going, Albemarle County, Virginia
Joshua Gowin, Louisa County, Virginia

As you know there are several spellings for this name.
Going, Goings, Gowen, Goen, and Gowin. You may want to look for variations in the spelling during the later generations. I believe that many are related, but chose to change the spelling, for various reasons.
