Goings, Cuttillo/Jewell, Anderson and Roberts.
Families of interest: Goings, Cuttillo/Jewell, Anderson and Roberts.
Descendent of Moses Going (b. abt. 1745 in Southwestern Virginia) who lived in Halifax/Lunenburg County, Virginia, Granville County, North Carolina and Wilkes/Warren County, Georgia and a member of the "grist mill" Going clan that lived in Southwest Virginia and neighboring counties of North Carolina in the mid-1700's.
I believe that Moses was likely the son of a daughter of John Going (b. abt. 1702 in Virginia)of Lunenburg County, Virginia. I believe his father may have been a neighbor, Edward Cuttillo (b. 1693). Moses married Agnes, who may have been a daughter of William Anderson, son of George Anderson (b. 1696) the progenitor of the mixed-race Anderson family that resided in Granville, North Carolina in the mid-1700’s. Moses later moved to Henry County, Virginia and then to Wilkes County, Georgia (soon after Warren County) in late 1784 where he lived among Quakers and other mixed-race families and operated a grist mill.
I descend through Moses’ son, William Going (b. abt. 1768 in Virginia and identified in one record as William Anderson Going) who was also a grist mill operator and lived in Warren and Columbia County, Georgia. William and his wife Sarah had approximately 8 children. I descend from their son Joseph (b. abt. 1796 in Columbia County, Georgia) and his wife Judith Kendrick.
I believe William’s son, John W. Goings (b. 1833 in Columbia County, Georgia), married Nancy Roberts who was related to the mixed-race Roberts family that moved into Georgia in the late 1700’s from Granville County, North Carolina (probably the granddaughter of Elisha Roberts, a revolutionary soldier who settled in Warren County, Georgia whose exact connection to that family I’ve yet to determine).
