Hi,
I am trying to find out the origins of my ancestor, Eloise Meullion[b 1800 in Louisiana]. She was a free woman of color in the 1850 census of St Landry Parish living with her daughter,Julie Birotte[my ancestor], and son John Chevis. Eloise also had an older daughter named Louise who was baptized in 1831. That tells me she was free as early as 1831. I'm familiar with the Meullions in St. Landry Parish and New Orleans who were fpoc. I'm just trying to see exactly where she fits in. I figure there is a relation.
Josephine Tesson is also my ancestor. She was a free person of color who lived in St. Landry Parish before the Civil War. If anyone is familiar with these two women, any info or tips would be very helpful.
