Emigration to Canada
Although all of the persons in two different families were free and appeared on the U.S. census in Pennsylvania in 1850 and 1860, none appear in any state on the 1870 and 1880 U.S. censuses. While it is possible that they all could have died, that seems improbable.
One possibility is that when the Civil War stated they decided to move to Canada. Nova Scotia was but one location of significant black emigration to Canada.
Although one can search the Canadian census data on Ancestry, apparently race is not high in their research algorithm. Thus for common names it is a hassle to use. Has anyone found A-A ancestors on Canadian records? I would appreciate your insights.
