Godrey Brown, Sr. FPOC VA & OH
The name of Godfrey Brown, Sr. came up in today's AfriGeneas Lunch Bunch Chat session (3-8-2011). A little background and some family history.
Godfrey Brown, Sr, (1768-1843) born in Brunswick Co., VA, a Shoe Cobbler by trade bought freedom for himself, his wife & his twelve (12) children and migrated to the area of Greene Co. Ohio ca 1822. By 1840 Godfrey Brown had accumlated property in three Ohio counties namely Greene, Shelby & Van Wert totaling an estimated 1,500 acres. Among his many accomplishmensts he donated the land and was the founder of the Middle Run Baptist Church in Xenia, Ohio.
Thelma (Clark) Walker, widow of Elwood Louis Walker, a 1st cousin once of removed of Art Thomas is a 3rd great-granddaughter of Godfrey Brown, Sr.. "Aunt' Thelma is a descendant of Godfrey & Chaney Brown's daughter, Bibannah Brown (1800-1843) who married Charles Swift 23 Dec, 1824 in Xenia, Greene Co., Ohio.
Thelma Louisa (Clark) Walker, born in April 1907, will celebrate her 104th birthday on 12 April 2011 in Urbana, Champaign Co., OH
