Re: Free Negro vs. Mullato
In Response To: Re: Free Negro vs. Mullato ()

MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS HINDUSTANI ALSO CALLED HINDI AND ALSO CALLED "EAST INDIAN" A PHRASE COINED BY THE WEST FOR THE INDIANS IN INDIA. HE CAME TO AMERICA AS AN INDENTURED SERVENT in the late 1800's. I have his records from India.
on the american census they put his race mullatoe several times. then on one census he is black. I have a potrait of him and i have his hindustani records.
All of this black, white, mullatoe stuff in no way identifies the persons true ethnicity. Black people have a bunch of ethnicites in africa, example you have the luo tribe in kenya, and whites also have a bunch of ethnicities in europe. my great grandfather people were not from europe or from africa and they put him down as a mullatoe on several census and also as black.
Thus, my greatgrandfather is a good example, that the person labled mullatoe does not have to be from a european and african mixture or native american indian and european mixture, for my greatgrandfather was none of the above I mentioned. He was hindustani born in india, a full blooded hindustani and his parents records are on his records and they were full blooded hindustani.
When Christopher Columbus traveled on the ships he was looking for my great grandfathers country india (the real indians), he traveled the wrong way and thought the carribeans and america was india and called the tribes there indian.
Now if the people are going to rely on those census to identify their ethnicity, then they will be just as lost as christopher columbus. Wakeup people, you are more than just a skin color, you have a clan a tribe with their own language, food, culture, etc. this is where the fun begins. and if there is no relative around to tell you who your people are take a dna. unlock the mystery and take the indentured servent and the chains of slavery off, stop letting people identify you, learn how to identify yourself. Then you will truely be free. you the master of your ship and you can steer the ship in the right direction, and thats home, where your ancestors came from.
