Looking for info on these two siblings, Marshall and Marie Jenkins. They lived in The St. Martinville area before migrating to Liberty, Texas in the early 1900s. Marshall and Marie Jenkins were heirs to the estate of Angelique Sam widow of Jean Baptiste Jean Louis in 1903 along with my gg grandfather,Aristide Sam, and his siblings. I have found evidence that they were likely kin to the Sams. Marie Jenkins was married to a Francois(Frank) Savoie in 1883. His parents were Ermogene Savoie and Marie Francoise Moral of Carencro. The marriage record lists the mother as Marie Sam.
I also found the birth entries relating to the children of Marshall Jenkins:
Jenkins,George Henry(Martial & Roselia LaStrappes) b 7 April 1894(Arnaudville Ch)
Jenkins,Joseph Gabellis(Martial & Roselia LaStrappes) b 3 Dec 1889(Arnaudville Ch)
Jenkins, Joseph Leonard(the informant on the death certificate of Marshall Jenkins. who died in 1942 of drowning in Houston.)(Martial & Roselie LaStrappes) b 6 Nov 1892(Arnaudville Ch)
Marriage of Mary Jenkins(mispelled as Drinkin)
Drinkin, Mary(Mary Sam) m. 9 May 1883 Francois Savoie(Ermogene & Marie Moral)(Carencro Ch)
*Francois Savoie had a sister named Elizabeth Savoie who married a Paul Arceneaux.
The death certificate of Marshall Jenkins lists his father as being Marshall John Jenkins(born in England. This matches the bp of father listed in the 1900 census of st. martin) and mother as being Mary ????
BARNABE,Adelaide(Augustin & Augustine TURNEK) b. 25 July 1876(SM Ch)
the age, name, and locale matches perfectly. She appears to be cousin of Marshall. I say this is because Augustin Bernabe was the half-brother to Angelique Sam's neice, MARIE SAM.(They appear together in the 1860 census in St. Landry Parish. Marie Sam was the daugther of Don Louis Sam & Azelie Hernandez. Seeing this makes me conclude that Marie Sam had a placage with some enigmatic englishman named Marshall John Jenkins and thats the reason the children were heirs of Angelique Sam. And maybe thats why the Sams and the Savoies dealt with each other. I even wonder if Ermogene Savoie was a relative of the Celesie Savoie,I found as neighbors to my ggg grandfather, Jean Pierre Louis Sam in 1860. Celesis Savoie had children by a man of color named Jean Baptiste Collins. THIS Jean Baptiste Collins also had kids by Catherine Pierre(Edmond and Florence Collins). Catherine Pierre was a cousin of the SAMs. So any info on the Jenkins would be helpful, their wherabouts before 1900 in Louisiana and any record which mentions a Marshall John Jenkins from England in Louisiana.
