I'm back. I've been out of commission for a few months as I got settled into my new home and job in Nashville, Tn (moved from Kansas City).
I started searching again and now I'm needing help again. I am still looking for Mertise Powell-Oliver. I started looking in other townships in Phillips County, Arkansas and found a Mertie Rockingham in the Horner Township in 1920. The father was John Rockingham who was born in 1879 in Mississippi. Although its hard to read the age on the census, I think it says 8yrs old which would make her the same as my Mertise/Mertie. This township is adjacent to where my grandfather Eugene lived so I'm a thinking this is a good find. However I can't seem to find the family in any earlier censuses. They are on the 1930 census but of course by that time Mertise and my grandfather were married so she wasn't listed with them.
I'm not fazed by the fact that she's listed in this surname family because I've found my maternal side of the family in other homes with their names listed incorrectly (for instance, my maternal grandmother's name was Pillow but she's found in her uncle's home listed as Donaby like her older brothers). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, Richard, I missed you the MOST!
