This reminds me that white people have a similar fixation, with their ancestor usually being an "Indian Princess." I remember a posting somewhere about oral history telling of an Indian Princess in a family, complete with an old photograph of her in full "Indian" regalia. Which, upon further diligent research, turned out to be some type of fraternal order costume...... Now you know there are still people in that family who won't accept that there is no Indian Princess....
