Re: DNA Testing (Scam or Not)
In Response To: Re: DNA Testing (Scam or Not) ()

Hello Joe,

DNA testing does not appear to be a "scam"...IMHO.

I've tested with FamilyTreeDNA, AncestryByDNA and used the results of African Ancestry of my grandfather's nephew. The "return on investment" has been to genetically confirm the direct lineage of my genealogical research through Y-DNA and mtDNA. The BGA Admixture test from AncestryByDNA has placed percentages to my entire genome sequences. Which gives a picture of my total gentic composition...ancestrally. So I'm pretty well satisfied with the DNA testing at this point in time.

The question of what do all those numbers represent is explained by each testing agency in their written materials as well as in CD format, at least in enough detail for their customer base.
They also point one to more detailed and scientific interpetations.
We have to work at understanding what the numbers represent.

Kinda like knowing that # 256 on our personal ancestor chart represents a 6th great-grandfather in our paternal line, right?
