Re: Which test is which?

Don't worry cuz,

Many people do not understand why researchers research, and particularly why genealogists spend hours---which we do, to look for yet one more name. When an effort is made to explain, they simply dismiss it.

We both know that any life lived,is worth remembering, and worth celebrating. There are some who will never understand particularly why we research our enslaved ancestors, and why we embrace our enslaved ancestors. Of course it was those ex-slaves who emerged from that period as true survivors and it was they who are real testament to our human spirit. Some of this lack of understanding and compassion comes basically from a sense of discomfort and even shame from descending from those who were victims of slavery. That peculiar institution does have its tentacles show up in many odd ways.

I have met many who will ask the question---why focus on mere slaves when we come from kings and mighty people? Sadly they do not see the dignity and mightiness and human value in those very slaves that they wish to forget.

Many who don't understand, can simply be dismissive about those who do. So although the "I-am-disappointed-in-you-I-hang-out-with-the-REAL Africans" attitude is a put down of what we do, we can only have compassion for those who have a need to say such, and move on to what we know is important.

"An ancestor never dies, till there is no one left to call their name." (Yoruba proverb)
Some never really appreciate this.
