I’m just in the dark as you are...What do you want to accomplish with your research?
Many of us are asking the same questions about DNA testing and what each test can tell us about our ancestors. A few people have posted their results from the DNAPrint analysis, I do not recall if any detail explanations were given. I plan to do the DNAPrint analysis myself, my reason for doing so would be to find out my family mixture other than Africa, which is obvious. Once I get the results, I plan to have the second highest percentage DNA tested for that ancestor as well as my African ancestors .

I tested with the Genographic project, what you receive is all there is. They will provide you with the journey of your ancestor from Africa. This test will not give you any specifics (tribal connections) just the geographic location and Haplogroup.

“Family Tree DNA.... Does that mean a cousin connection or just a "hey we are from the same place" connection.” I believe both of these are possible, it depends on the number of marker.

I think one has to decide if they’re seeking to find out which tribe, clan or group their ancestors belong or continue the research to include locating relative here in the U.S. Then you will be able to decide which tests are appropriate. Yes, more than one test may be needed. Trish
