Thanks for explaining. No I have not taken the 23andme test. I was told that I did not need to take it. I was also informed just recently that in Maryland where I live for some reason no one can take test from the state of Maryland. But my brother took the West Y-DNA test, mtDNAPLUS (includes Family Finder in 2005.

I just sent off my AncestryDNA sample last week. We took the West Y-DNA test because we knew the Paternal side were Scot-Irish from England.

But we knew nothing about the maternal side. Now we know they are from West Africa: Camaroon, Sierra Leone and Algeria, East Africa: Ethiopia and Gabon (now Bantu), L3d. I am using to find other matches now. I can compare Kit#'s with other kits.

And yes, I was told you get more matches from 23andme.

Thanks for your information. I appreciate any help I can get.

Note: We matched at least 11 other families (white) and we are the only AA that have tested with the West
