I think we need to be a little more precise. It is true that human beings originated in Africa. The claim that all haplogroups originated there is not true. The reason that haplogroups are of anthropological interest is that they are tied to geography and time (prehistoric). There are only a small number of haplogroups that are tied to Africa. For the Y-chromosome they are A, B, and E. For mtDNA they are the subclades of L. Essentially all of the others originated elsewhere as mutations accrued during migrations around the globe.
