African American DNA Research Forum
I recently learned that my maternal DNA sequence is identical to the pattern of Haplogroup A, which in North America is found among Native Americans in Alaska, the Pacific areas of Western Canada, and among two southwestern tribes, the Navajos and Apaches.
My mother's earliest known female ancestor was a mulatto woman, born in 1810 in a little town in "southwestern Virginia."
I'm a bit puzzled that, with roots in the mountains of Virginia , I would have a maternal DNA link with the Haplogroup A group.
