Dear African American Cemeteries Web Creators and Information Providers:
Thank you for providing such a fine website. From your site, I read about African American Cemeteries on Sapelo Island, Georgia. I read an article by Teresa Stepzinski of the Morris News Service about Cornelia Bailey and The Gullah family who have lived on Sapelo Island for two hundred years.
I am interested in learning about the West African Culture of American Blacks. What is the relationship between that culture and African American dialect, achievement and consciousness. Are there authorities on this culture at Sapelo Island, south Georgia or elsewhere? Is there a movement to create greater consciousness of this culture to contemporary African Americans?
Thank you for your response to my letter.
