Re: Update: Mt Auburn Cemetery, Baltimore MD/History
In Response To: Re: Update: Mt Auburn Cemetery, Baltimore MD/History ()
Hello Lu...and all others... I'm a photojournalist for FOX 45 in Baltimore. My reporter and I were driving down Waterview Avenue today (02/10/2007) and drove right by Mt. Auburn Cemetery. She noticed the cemetery and we both commented on how we couldn't believe just how poorly kept it was. I thought to myself this would truly make a great story - particularly during Black History Month given the history of this cemetery. I will have to do some more research on this, and get the thumbs-up from my News Director, but my thinking is to include people in the community such as yourself - and some of the others on this board or elsewhere - with a desire to clean up this historic landmark. I would also really like to find one or two people with ancestors/family members buried there that are looking for a way to either relocate their loved ones actual resting place, replace their tombstone, or simply clean up the "City of the Dead for Colored People" because they care. Please respond as soon as you can. I plan on speaking with my News Director on Mon day about pursuing this idea. If you could, please include a phone number where you can be reached as well. And feel free to let anyone else know of my interest in this story. I realize I just barely missed the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority meeting this past Thursday! I still feel strongly that we can get the message out there and help you all in your cause. All the best...
