I used to work as a librarian for The New England Genealogical Society. One member of the staff did an article on tracing her ancestry and finding an unexpected Black line through her Prince Edward Island background. There was an Englishman who had a Black skilled indentured servant who he emancipated. The Black added the Englishman's name onto his own. He in turn bought an Irish identured servant girl at auction who agreed to become his wife. A generation later they did the same for a son. By the time that my coworker was born there was no tradition of being African in the family and they had intermarried with many others on PEI. What differentiated the family was that they continued using the middle name Denbow which while it appears in Britain is in this case from Ndenbo the African's first name. The surname they adopted is Sickles.
