Seeking information on a relative josephina that immigrated from the Azores or Madeira or portugal. Her name was Josephine. Some called her Josie. She immigrated to America in the late eighteen hundreds or early nineteen hundreds when great waves of black and mixed portugues immigrated to America. She wore a very large Black bow in her hair.
She lived in New York City. She lived a long life passed 100 years old. She recently passed away. Before she died, she told me her name is josphine. She is of Portugue descent and a decendent of the Moors in the south of Spain, in a place called Al Andulucia. She told me Her fathers people were Moarabites. She changed her name to Luciel in America. As she told her story she stunned the whole family. She spoke four languages, castallano spanish, Portugue, Arabic, some French, and learned English in America. The family is doing a genealogy chart on Josephine side of the family. Josephine describes a story of when she was in her native country and she was a little girl of a man coming to the house who came to talk to her parents. He told her parents that he wanted to marry josphine and that he would give her parents a dowry and help take care of her until she was the age of marriage, then he would marry her. When he left, Josephine's mother told josephine that the man wanted to marry her, Josephine said I do not want to marry him why he looks like my father. I need descents of Azores and Mediras and Portugal to look at old photos for our decendent had their regional costumes on when they arrived in America. My relative had a Big Black bow in her hair and a skinny twisted tie around a peter pan collar shirt and a black or gray jacket with puff sleeves. If any body has a similiar picture of a relative from the Azores and medeira or Portugal please post me a message and tell me what region are they from in the Azores or Medeira. This will help in my research. Thank You and God Bless!
