My name is Maxwell Newland, descendent of Alpheus newland, son of Levi and Louisa Newland. My dad was born in St. Ann, Jamaica in 1924 and lives there with his brothers and sisters. In a village called Fullerton Park, there are alot of Newlands, who are direct descendants of my grandfather who died in 1982. During my visit to Jamaica last year, dad introduced me to a cousin who owns and operates a store close to Saint D'acre.
I have two brothers both Newlands who lives here in Canada and New york.
Where am I going with this? Not too sure!!! LOL. I would love to know more about the origin of my 'name'. I believe that it was inherited from former British slave masters who 'owned' my foreparents at the time. Incidentally there is an area near Cave Valley, St. Ann called Newland's Valley,which is close to Sunday Gully (large valley where free slaves were allowed to spend there Sundays away from the eyes of the slave masters).
