Re: Jamaica Research
In Response To: Re: Jamaica Research ()

victoria, the ellis island site has more information than what you have shown here. after you find your person on a list, click on the name and get to the passenger record. just above the passenger record box is a small rectangle that says "view the original manifest". click on that and wait for the page to come up. when it does, it's small. you can enlarge it by clicking on it or on the magnifier icon that's off to the right and it will open to a readable size. i looked at your eugene dorset to see why you got so little information and this is what turns up on the actual manifest:

Eugene e dorset 35 yr, is traveling with wife, mrs. eugene e dorset, 23 yrs and child eugene k dorset, 1 year old and a woman, mrs margaret ritchie, 45 yrs who is probably your mabel's mother. they are
all going to an address in brooklyn, ny to a friend whose name looks like j. l. barton or banton. (other interpretations possible.) they last lived in inagua (?) and it looks like both eugenes were born there also. the two women (prob mabel and her mother) were born in jamaica.

this sounds like your people--there is a little more info that i did not take down so it's worth your going back and reading the whole thing yourself. and i forgot to take the arrival date down also.

i hope this is a help--
