Re: Race/color in 1930 census Puerto Rico

A recent study of the PR census 1910 - 1920 by 2 demographers, has turned up some rather startling information. It seems the local government in PR edited (changed) many census racial classifications in PR before submitting the data to the Feds. The effect caused a statistical "whitening"of the populace.
So many folks listed as Mu became B (for Blanco) and some N's for Negro became mu.

They cross checked their findings with mortality rates and out-migration. They were trying to figure out why so many afro-descendants in PR disappeared in such a short span of time.

End result - they didn't disappear at all - they were just re-classified - for poltical reasons.
