Johan, in reading this string I realize I had a question that is similar to your delemma.
My Paternal grandfather had a SS# and I ordered the original application. He was born, according to application 1900. It gave some interesting information, such as the name of his father and his mothers maiden name. Also a place of birth. What puzzles me is I have never been able to find any information on any records, census or otherwise for these parents. ALSO assume the original application was handwritten by this grandfather. I had never ever saw his handwriting. Many of the other ancestor's applications I have ordered, an this is a last resort effort for application copies, were typed. This paternal grandfather wrote his 'c" and some other letter's backwards. This gave me an idea he was dyslexic. Have you ordered anyones original application yet. One other thing because there were no PAPER BIRTH CERTIFICATES available for many of them, information was created to give these seniors something. That's something to look at. $27 is a lot of money when you get the wrong one and no refunds.
