My dad did not talk very much about his life, and i think he really loved Smithdale Pennsylvania a lot, because most of the time he talked about that place. I know he spent a lot of time in the south because he sounded like a southerner, and he was in the Army/ air force in Georgia, but I have no idea if he divorced Alma at this time, because the records i have seen that might match him say no dependents, so i have no idea where alma and Margaret are at that time.
Here is most of what i know from my dad's own lips. He and his father worked in the coal mines. His father upped my dad's age so he could go into the mines early. My grandmother sang gospel, made crochet afghans, and was widowed when my grandfather was shot during a craps game. My father was orphaned at 16 when my grandmother died of a goiter. His grandfather's name was LaPlante (or so he remembered) I am still not sure if that is a first name or last name, I have tried both. He said his mother's last name was Jackson, and since i have no idea which grandparent Laplante was, I have put in LaPlante Jackson and Bryant, to no avail. He was the one who was Black Creek according to my father, so I have no idea what his actual name might have been.
My father's family followed the mines and he lived in Ohio, W. Virginia, Kentucky...every where there were mines. So I hope this helps.
