Re: Beal in VA, NJ or NC
In Response To: Re: Beal in VA, NJ or NC ()
NJ..is not an area that I research but like Debie, I took a look at the census records and located Sophia in the same records, without John Beal.
I also noted that there was another child in the orphanage with James and Wellington, Nathaniel (it is indexed as Cathaniel), he is said to be 11 years old. What happened to him? This would mean that Sophia and John were together from approxomatley 1909 until 1916, when you find Sophia listed as a Widow.
Also have you considered researching Sadie Beal Jackson, assuming that she is John Beal's sister. Sometimes you have to research other family members to find the folks you are looking for.
If that is John's sister then obviously Sophia still had a relationship with the family.
In the 1880 Census in Northampton County NC, I found Cary Motly age 23, wife Louisa age 21 and daughter Lena. Are these Sophia's parents and their first child.
