In Response To: Re: Goins of Belmont Co., OH and Albemarle Co., VA (update) ()
-->I have a friend that does alot of research in the Court Order Books for Albemarle County I am going to check with him, to see what he has.
-->I do have some material here related to Albemarle......but I am trying to get a time line straight in my head about the information that you posted. I can tell you that the surname is spelled numerous ways in the Albemarle records, Goen, Goens, Goin, Going, Goings, Goining, Goins..but you probably know that.
answer: I do know about the various spellings and it has bedeviled me until I learned to just accept it.
-->Michael is in Albemarle in 1828 when he is recorded in the Register, along with Henderson Going and Reuban Ailstock, but gone from the 1833 List that includes Henderson? The next time you locate him he is in 1840 in OHIO with wife Verlinda (married in 1835-location?).
b) if this is Michael named in the obituary, he was approximately 23 years old as stated in the order book
c) Michael married Verlinda Payne (Harper?) in May 1835 in Belmont County, Ohio according to early Ohio marriages held at the Mormon library in Salt Lake City
d) the 1840 Guernsey County, Ohio census list individuals (fpoc) who are between 24-35 years of age.
e) The township of that census was Millwood and the nearest "large" town was Quaker City. Perhaps there was a small village of Millwood. Millwood the township is just across the Guernsey/Belmont County border. Belmont borders West Virginia on the Ohio river
f) There are some Ailstocks in some of the early Ohio censuses and there is a Thomas GOING/GOINS from Virginia in one of the early Belmont County censuses.
These are the GOING individuals listed in 1828 Albemarle County order book:
Henderson remained in the Virginia censuses but so far I have only seen a Michael in Ohio.
