I have found documentation giving the pob for Peter Froht as Liberia.
Peter was born in 1894, and was a fireman/merchant marine located in New Jersey by 1920. I know nothing about research in Africa (even in the best of times)--- how do I begin to track Froht's family--who should have been in Liberia in the early 20th century?
Just learned that my friend's grandfather was born in Liberia 1894. He was in this country (merchant seaman) by 1917. We have no knowledge of his parents or other family---though his World War I Draft Registration relates he had a brother then living in Cardiff. What resources/tools are available for research in Liberia? He was a non-documented alien in 1918---but he may have become "legal" in later years. We will, of course, search for immigration records--that may reveal something? The last name of interest to us is Froht, often seen as Froth or Froot. We do not know if that was a birth or assumed last name. His friend, another Liberian was called Jack Savage---they apparently immigrated together, and married sisters here.
Any insight appreciated ?shirley
