Re: Black adoptions on the rise
In Response To: Black adoptions on the rise
() If this is true, it's wonderful news. However, I would like to examine this statistic alongside the one on the number of children entering and still in the foster care system. Historically far too many Black children have remained in foster care and never released for adoption. My son came home as a foster child and we (and he) endured two years of hearings before he was finally released. In our case the biological mother had given him up but the putative father suddenly developed an interest in his son when he was notified of a pending adoption. Of course he never showed up for any of the hearings but succeeded in dragging things out for years. Anyway, I wonder how many children still reach adulthood in foster care. B.J.
