molly/mary nicholas was found in the 1810 miss. census described as a woman of color and head of household. it is rare that anyone but an adult white male would be listed. i assume she was free and therefore if still alive by 1831 should've had papers declaring her status. how can i find this document? she lived in jefferson co. near fayette in miss. in 1810. i believe she was my ancester and would love to discover her life and circumstance.
