Selma: Pretty good..trying to straighten up a bit

Seventies Soulchild: I had the children do that yesterday. And going to do it again today.

Selma: LOL...

Seventies Soulchild: Are you on facebook?

Selma: I have a page..but not there much

Seventies Soulchild: There are some great genealogy pages out there now. Hello Mr. Thomas :}

alt: hey y'all how are ya? Seventies Soulchild & Slema

Selma: Mornin..alt

Seventies Soulchild: doing good. I am a fan of the Mexico, Alabama, Mississippi and African American genealogy research pages on facebook. I had to beg Robin to start the page. lol The Alabama genealogy page.

alt: I'm trying to stay away from the 'special' FB pages... I would never get anything done if I followed all of those of interest.

Seventies Soulchild: The people over on the Mexico genealogy page were intrigued with my Henyard family. lol

alt: I can imagine... is it an Afro-Mexican page?

Seventies Soulchild: No just Mexican genealogy in general

alt: okay

Seventies Soulchild: I told them that I believe they came to MS under some unusual circumstance.

alt: you and Eva Longeria (sp), huh?

Seventies Soulchild: Ha!

alt: got any money left from Black Friday Selma?

Seventies Soulchild: I was thinking that perhaps I should look into the Henyards and McFarlands as being FPOCs. Hi Daviss

alt: Hello Daviss..

Selma: Didn't go near any stores alt...

Daviss: hello there alt, Selma and Seventies!

Selma: Mornin Daviss

Seventies Soulchild: Me either Selma.

Selma: Nope not that either alt...

alt: Seventies Soulchild, wasn't one of the Henyard's a CW volunteer from Canada?

Seventies Soulchild: Not in the lines I am researching alt. I do know that Henyard is a British surname and there are a few pockets of them in the U.S. Good morning kim

alt: Hello kim.. Welcome

Selma: Good Sunday mornin Kim

kim: Hello

Daviss: hi Kim, welcome

alt: okay Seventies Soulchild, I thought you/we had hooked up the Canadian Henyard with your folks.

Selma: Is this your first time to an Afrigeneas chat kim?

alt: I see her posts occasionly on FaceBook..... Denise

Daviss: Hello AYWalton!!

alt: oh btw y'all, heard from Irita... she broke the small bone in one of her legs and she is doing the Selma imitation :(

AYWalton: True about having "no other life" when genealogy is all you do. That describes me pretty well. oh gracious---poor thing. BTW Selma are you able to do the Electric Slide at long last?

Seventies Soulchild: She's one who hasn't been on here in a while. I hope she gets better soon alt. Send her well wishes.

Daviss: sheesh alt...hope she will be better soon

kim: I'm ready to resume my research but can't remember where I need to pick up

alt: will send her y'all's message of support.

kim: Thanks alt

Seventies Soulchild: Where were you with your family tree kim?

alt: maybe this makes for a good time to 'review' what you have done to this point kim, before starting any 'heavy' research?

kim: I believe I started Samuels in Georgia

Selma: Oh no on Irita alt...tell her I "feel her pain"..

alt: I shall Selma..

Seventies Soulchild: Do you recall what area?

Selma: Nope not sliding yet AY...

kim: can't remember now...it will come to me

AYWalton: lol oh well take your time!

Selma: Kim..on the Alexander's in Mecklenburg...what are their names?

Seventies Soulchild: brb y'all

kim: Frank Alexander gggrandfather, Mark Alexander, slave holder I have plenty of info on this family...even talk quite often to Mark Alexander's gggranddaughter

Daviss: Kim, I just did a search on Afrigeneas. Did you use KimW

kim: sure did

Daviss: You may want to do a Samuels search and mabe that will give you a heads up mabe trigger where you left off

alt: Mecklenburg, isn't that one of those border counties with NC?

kim: I did but it seems nobody was researching my Minnie Samuels Yes it is

AYWalton: Sometimes we all walk on the lonely genealogical road. It is a solitary endeavor for sure.

alt: okay, in the southampton, northampton, halifax area.

kim: It seem that Minne was very elusive

alt: Minnie meet Mariah LOL

Daviss: I am seing you searching Anica Samuels in SC

kim: thats it....you guys are fast and good what part of georgia was it

Daviss: looks like Richmond County

kim: I'm building that memory again...when I get excited info comes slow yes it was help me with the city

Selma: Take your time kim...as you can see we don't go anywhere.. LOL Not sure if that is good or bad

Daviss: here is one link http://www.afrigeneas.com/forum-fpoc/index.cgi/md/read/id/2954/sbj/samuels-in-south-carolina

AYWalton: how have you been?

Statustray: It's been a long time and I shouldn't have kept you waiting... lol.... ;-)

Seventies Soulchild: lol lol

Daviss: I see kim

kim: hello Statustray

Seventies Soulchild: How is your MS research going Statustray?

alt: we're so glad you could see "us" again Statustray

AYWalton: Been doing any research lately Statustray?

Statustray: It's coming along alright. I still have some brick walls, but I am not giving up. And even though I have some brick walls, I am still learning about family members so that's good ;-)

kim: yes it is

Statustray: AYWalton: Yup, I am now back researching again, I took a leave of absence for a little bit, but now I'm back into it.

AYWalton: I know how that is, Statustray.

kim: me too..I'm back!

Statustray: I still have family members who do not want to give me any information, or so it seems, they tell me, "I am going to send it to you" but it's all a mirage... lol...

Seventies Soulchild: oh I can't stand that. lol

Daviss: kim, do you know when Minnie was born

Seventies Soulchild: My aunts are very, very talkative about the family history and very helpful as is my grandfather.

kim: early 1880's

alt: anyone using and/or having any luck with FamilySearch Wiki?

Selma: Morning statustray

AYWalton: I am going to update some of my FTM records this week, at least I hope to.

Statustray: Hey Selma ;-) AYWalton: u using 2012?

AYWalton: no, an older version. FTM 16 which I have had a while. I hear that the 2012 version is a good one.

Statustray: It is pretty nice, yes.

AYWalton: And laptops are now coming with it pre-loaded.

alt: FTM 16 is the last 'real' FTM genealogy package out there AYWalton ... IMHO

Statustray: oh really? I didn't know that.

Selma: Good morning dru

ProfDru: Howdy Gang

Statustray: Hey there ProfDru.

kim: Hi ProfDru

Seventies Soulchild: I didn't know that either. wow

alt: Hello ProfDru

Seventies Soulchild: I've got to run. I'll see you all tomororw. Have a great afternoon.

AYWalton: Ah.... ProfDru is in da house!!

alt: later's Seventies Soulchild

Statustray: I know they have an app for iPhones, and I sent them a email inquiring about Android, and they told me right now there are no plans to make a app for Android :(

ProfDru: Angela in da house!!!

Daviss: hello ProfDru

AYWalton: how are you this afternoon, ProfDru?

ProfDru: I'm ok; trying to resist taking a nap. lol I just played with the voice recognition software on my computer--where you can speak to the computer and it types what you say.

AYWalton: Statustray what are you working on with your own projects.

ProfDru: Dictated a 1971 letter written to my grandmother by her sister.

alt: WOW ProfDru, we're finally there when computers will do what we say, huh?

AYWalton: sounds like a neat program. did you purchase it or download it recently ProfDru?

ProfDru: This technology has been at least since the late 1990s.

alt: really!!!!!

ProfDru: I used the free one with windows, but I do have one which I purchased some time ago.

Selma: Is it built into everyone's computer?

Statustray: AYWalton: Nothing in particular to be honest. I did recently learn that my great-great-great grandmother had siblings, and tracked one of her brothers from MS to TX.

alt: but not available for everyday 'chumps' like me, huh?

AYWalton: Yes I am aware that the technology exists I used to see ads for it on AOL years ago, but never looked at it.

ProfDru: It should be there, Selma, but if not it can be downloaded.

AYWalton: oh yes, you have to go after those collateral ancestors as well, Statustray.

ProfDru: It is speech recognition software.

Statustray: that's so very true AYWalton.

AYWalton: so there is a free one in every computer ProfDru?

kim: oh yes I've heard of it

ProfDru: yep

Statustray: ProfDru: I used to use this package called Dragon Dictate many years ago and it was so nice and slick. It had 'dictation' mode, and also 'command' mode. Now I have the technology by Dragon Dictate on my android phone too ;-)

Daviss: Kim here is the link to use. click on afrigeneas and in the search line put in Samuels. It will bring up all of them http://www.afrigeneas.com/search.html

kim: thanks so much

ProfDru: yes, Dragon is a great software package.

Statustray: it may be called Dragon Naturally Speaking (or something similar) now. It has changed its name a couple of times.

Daviss: what is the title listed on the puter Dru? I cant seem to find it

ProfDru: I'

AYWalton: did someone just leave the room? I heard the chime.

Daviss: looks like kim did the daviss lol

Statustray: Kim left.

ProfDru: I'm using Windows 7 and is it is called Speech Recognition Software. Try looking in Accessories folders.

Daviss: wb kim

ProfDru: Vicky, what operating system are you using?

kim: I clicked on the link and lost the chat

AYWalton: Hmm....it's not on my computer. I have XP.

ProfDru: Angela, download a free copy of voice recognition software from Internet.

alt: You have the 'full package" Windows 7 ProfDru?

AYWalton: ahhh there are free packages. Interesting.

ProfDru: I have the one that came with my computer, alt.

Daviss: same as you but durn if I see it

AYWalton: Might be a great way to "transribe" many of my text records from the Archives. Like FB records. then it can be saved as a Word file, ProfDru?

ProfDru: Vicky, you can do a search for voice recognition software in Windows 7

kim: glad to know I have it will try it later

Daviss: I cant even find accessories lol

ProfDru: yes, saved as a word file, angela

alt: I just bough a 'netbook bout 2 months ago and it just has the 'Starter" Windows 7.

ProfDru: alt, try using the search feature in Windows 7 to see if you have software

Statustray: wow, that's interesting, i didn't know the netbooks came with 7.... that's cool.

alt: okay ProfDru

Statustray: i thought it was only xp

Daviss: ok got it ProfDru lol thx

Statustray: i'm so behind the times... lol....

alt: nope Statustray, this is a Esus (sp) Netbook

Selma: See that is the wonder of the CHATS..you learn something NEW everyday.. LOL

Statustray: You got that right Selma... lol...

Daviss: that is so true Selma

kim: I just looked in my accessories and I don't have it. I have windows 7

ProfDru: kim, maybe you can download it from Internet

kim: thanks

Daviss: lol I could not find accessories but I did a search and it came up for me

alt: I think there are two editions of Window 7 .. starter & complete. pehaps that is the difference.

Daviss: speech recog and a mike

ProfDru: do you have a computer microphone, vicky?

Daviss: it came up Prof Dru

ProfDru: good vicky

Daviss: 'I am gonna play with it after chat lol

ProfDru: what community are you inputting, vicky?

kim: thanks again

AYWalton: If you have a set of obits from the same community you can begin to construct family sets as well.

Daviss: Harrison County Texas staring with the peeps in the distric Mariah lived in

ProfDru: ok

Daviss: district

alt: here is my community file kim http://mydatabase.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=mydatabase&view=9&ver=2363

ProfDru: community projects are great--you're like to also discover more about your family as well.

Daviss: I started with the 1930 census but now I am wondering if I should have started with the 1870

Historyuff: I can't but thinking, Daviss that every time I see your Mariah photos, how striking she was.

Daviss: I dont have a pic of her HB you more than likely saw my grandmother and my mother
